Why Relocate Instead of Buying New?
For many industrial operations, a truck scale is essential to daily workflow. When a facility relocates, expands, or reconfigures its site, purchasing new isn’t the only option.
Relocating an existing truck scale can:
- Save on equipment costs
- Reduce lead times compared to ordering new
- Minimize downtime by reusing proven equipment
Case Study: Scale Relocation Project
A customer was moving operations to a new site and wanted to bring an existing scale with them rather than start from scratch. Our team provided a turnkey relocation service, including removal, transport, reinstallation, calibration, and certification.
Step 1: Removing the Truck Scale
- Safely removed load cells and wiring from the deck
- Loaded the deck onto a flatbed for transport
-
Overcame typical site challenges:
- Corroded hardware
- Sediment in conduits
- Cutting anchor bolts to remove load cell stands
Step 2: Preparing the Foundation
The new site had a partial foundation from an older scale, saving both time and cost.
- Removed any remaining hardware or obstructions
- Smoothed and cleaned surfaces for proper clearance
- Checked scale gap tolerances and measurements to prevent rubbing and ensure accuracy
Step 3: Installing the Truck Scale
With the customer providing lifting equipment, we:
- Positioned the scale modules in the foundation
- Installed load cell stands, load cells, wiring, conduit, and junction boxes
- Applied grease to moving suspension parts and Never-Seize to bolts for easier future service
- Pulled and terminated wiring for a clean, reliable installation
- Installed grounding straps and electrical surge protection which is critical here in Central Florida
Step 4: Calibration, Testing & Certification
- Ran home run cables and grounding to the scale house
- Integrated the new indicator with software, remote display, and ticket printer
- Calibrated with our motorized test cart and performed strain tests
- Placed the scale into legal-for-trade service with the Florida Department of Agriculture Weights and Measures
